The Coast Live Oak is the iconic tree of California. In nature, its outstretched branches cut impressive silhouettes against the sky. It has two other features that make it unique. It moves as it dries and it, and because it is slow-growing and dense, it burns forever.  These trees fueled the growth of the state. The piece, was designed to capture these two unique features. In this case, a fire has made the vessel resilient, and the single butterfly key has added stability during the drying process. After a year of working on this piece, it feels incredible to see all these features come together in one final statement, a tribute to the tree and the role it has played in our lives.
