It's a privilege to work with figured walnut. This piece comes from Danville, California. It was seasoned over 20 years. The form reflects the stability of the material. The thin walls, sharp edges, and deep undercutting are only possible because the material has virtually no moisture content. These forms are inspired by a trip to Naoshima island in Japan and the architect Tadao Ando's apertures at the Benesse house museum.
