EVIDENCE Edition 5, 0125
Chinese Elm, finished in Walnut oil. 6" x 5". Elm is incredibly dense. The green structure is open, but in this piece I've turned it to a smooth finish. The elms bark has been retained. It's always remarkable to me to watch the change in a piece after I've turned it. This vessel was turned in the early part of 2020 and left to drive very slowly. It retains its dimensions while it dried. I love the small details in the sapwood, and the caramel color of heartwood. This elm was sourced from a city tree lot. Ryan, who's giving me so much material over the years, was gracious enough to meet me on a holiday morning and sort through the pile to find a handful of extraordinary pieces.
